The Celo blockchain’s developers, CLabs, proposes migrating from an independent layer-1 blockchain to an Ethereum layer-2 solution.

Utilizing Optimism‘s OP Stack, the transfer would improve security, make it easier to share liquidity between Celo and Ethereum, and allow for developers to work together more seamlessly.

Since Celo is already Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible, Ethereum developers can quickly move their current Dapps over or create new ones utilizing many of the same tools.

According to Celo’s suggested design, there will be “off-chain data availability, powered by EigenLayer and EigenDA, operated by Ethereum node operators, and protected by restaked ETH.” As early as July 22, the team intends to publish an indicative on-chain governance proposal for the community to vote on.

Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, left a technical remark on the Celo forum article and expressed enthusiasm for the idea. Vitalik said:

“Would love to see the Celo ecosystem come closer to Ethereum.”

According to data from Dune, Celo has experienced a significant boost in transaction growth over the past several months, but the activity is still far below levels attained in 2021 and 2022.
