  • CCP Games is shifting EVE Frontier’s development from an EVM testnet to the Sui blockchain to leverage its scalable, object-oriented architecture.
  • The move aligns with CCP’s goal of creating an evolving, player-driven universe supported by Sui’s parallel processing, Move language, and instant finality.
  • Using Sui-native tools like Walrus, Seal, and zkLogin, CCP aims to build a moddable, self-sustaining digital world with lower entry barriers for players.

CCP Games has revealed that its upcoming blockchain-based space survival title EVE Frontier will now be developed on the Sui blockchain, a decision that marks a major shift in the game’s technical foundation and long-term vision. The developer confirmed that the transition from its existing EVM testnet to Sui is currently underway, aligning the project with a more scalable and object-oriented architecture.

According to CCP, the move reflects its goal of building a persistent, player-driven universe capable of evolving autonomously. Sui’s structure allows for parallel transaction processing and near-instant finality – capabilities seen as essential for supporting a virtual world composed of thousands of interconnected star systems and countless player-created assets. The blockchain also employs the Move programming language, which CCP says suits the object-based nature of EVE Frontier, where every ship, base, and structure carries its own distinct history and identity.

Aligning Game Design with Blockchain Logic

CCP Games CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson said the company’s mission has always been to “create virtual worlds more meaningful than real life” and that Sui’s design “object-centric approach neatly matches our historic item-centric approach”. The development team added that this migration enables a “player moddable universe” where third-party creators have the same access to build within the ecosystem as CCP itself.

For us, Sui offered the unique alignment of architecture, security, and user experience. Together, we’re building a world that can truly stand the test of time.

The company will also adopt Sui-based tools including the Walrus decentralised storage platform and Seal, a secure data provider, to enhance data trust and access control. Features such as zkLogin will enable players to sign in via email, while sponsored gas fees will lower entry barriers for newcomers.

CCP emphasised that as the project continues in open development, these changes are designed to make EVE Frontier a self-sustaining digital world that can endure well into the future.
