The total number of Bitcoin ATMs throughout the world has now surpassed the 8,000 mark, as more and more machines keep on being installed. These are now available in a total of 73 countries.
According to Bitcoin ATM monitoring service CoinATMRadar, most machines let users buy and sell various cryptocurrencies for cash, although there are some that only work with the flagship cryptocurrency. In some cases, users are only allowed to buy BTC using the ATM, not sell.
While different ATMs support different cryptocurrencies, most machines either just support BTC, or support top altcoins like Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Monero (XMR,) XRP, Dogecoin (DOGE), and Tethers USDt stablecoin.
Notably, out of a total of 8,210 Bitcoin ATMs installed throughout the world, 6,243 are located in the United States. The second most popular locations for these machines in Canada, with 788 (9.5%) installed in its cities.
Behind Canada, only the United Kingdom and Austria have over 100 Bitcoin ATMs installed, with 273 and 155 respectively. Some countries, including Zimbabwe, Norway, New Zealand, Mongolia, Malta, and India only have one Bitcoin ATM.
The number of Bitcoin ATMs throughout the world has been steadily rising, as in May 2018 there were 3,000 machines. By November 2019, the number of crypto ATMs was above 6,000. The 7,000 mark was surpassed in March of this year meaning that in only a few months over 1,000 Bitcoin ATMs were installed.
